Kim Jong Un lands in Singapore for summit talks with Donald Trump

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un landed in Singapore on Sunday ahead of a summit with U.S. President Donald Trump that could end a nuclear stand-off between the old foes and transform his secretive, impoverished country.
When Trump and Kim meet on the resort island of Sentosa on Tuesday they will be making history even before they start.

Enemies since the 1950-53 Korean War, the leaders of North Korea and the United States have never met previously - or even spoken on the phone.Kim arrived at Singapore's Changi Airport after his longest trip overseas as head of state wearing his trademark dark Maoist suit and distinctive high cut hairstyle. He was greeted by Singapore's foreign minister, Vivian Balakrishnan, who posted a picture on Twitter of him shaking hands with Kim and the message: "Welcomed Chairman Kim Jong Un, who has just arrived in Singapore".

Believed to be 34, portly and baby-faced, Kim is one of the youngest heads of state in the world and looks an unlikely candidate to be making history of the kind that has eluded his father and grandfather, both past leaders of North Korea. But since taking power in 2011 on his father's death, the youthful Kim has displayed a mixture of ruthlessness, pragmatism and statecraft to get this prize - to sit across the table with the leader of the United States and be treated as an equal.

The two countries were on the brink of war last year, with their leaders trading insults and threats, until Kim made a dramatic offer in March to meet Trump and discuss nuclear disarmament, which the American president quickly accepted. Kim's journey from international pariah to being regarded as a responsible head of state has taken just a few months. After inheriting a nuclear programme that was fitful and making little progress, Kim poured socialist North Korea's limited money into developing a nuclear-armed missile capable of hitting the United States.

North Korea announced it had achieved that capability late last year. Although unproved, the claim carried enough credence for Washington to take Kim more seriously. On Thursday, Trump dangled the prospect of normalised relations with the United States, and even a White House visit for Kim if he ditched his nuclear arsenal. For Kim, nearly 40 years Trump's junior and representing the third generation of North Korea's ruling dynasty, the summit affords both him and his long-isolated country the international legitimacy his father and grandfather could only dream of. Trump said he and Kim could even sign an agreement to end the Korean War, which was concluded only with a truce, not a peace treaty.

DRAMATIC MAKEOVER

Kim is also one of the most ruthless leaders in the world. He has been accused of ordering the killing of his uncle, who was shot by a firing squad using anti-aircraft guns, and his half-brother, who could have been a challenger and was poisoned with a nerve agent at Kuala Lumpur airport in Malaysia. At his behest, about 340 officers in Pyongyang whose loyalty was suspect have been purged or executed, according to South Korean intelligence.
Kim decided early on in his tenure that nuclear weapons were the only way to ensure security for his isolated nation and be taken seriously by the rest of the world. Despite North Korea being one of the world's poorest countries, enormous resources were spent on the ballistic missile and nuclear programmes.

In September, after North Korea conducted its sixth and largest nuclear test, Trump said in a tweet that Kim was "obviously a madman who doesn't mind starving or killing his people". Kim called Trump "a mentally deranged U.S. dotard".
But this year, things have changed at a head-spinning pace. In his New Year message, Kim extended an olive branch to enemy South Korea, sent a team to the Winter Olympics there in February, and held two summits with South Korean President Moon Jae-in in April and May. He also made two secret trips to China since March to meet Chinese President Xi Jinping, and hosted U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo twice in Pyongyang. Just a week before his April visit to the demilitarised zone (DMZ) for his first summit with Moon, Kim declared an end to nuclear testing, effectively ending his "byungjin" twin strategy that pursues nuclear prowess alongside economic development.

Kim said he would instead put all efforts into jumpstarting economic growth for his country of more than 25 million people. Many remain sceptical Kim will ever completely abandon his nuclear programmes. They believe his latest engagement is aimed at getting the United States to ease crippling economic sanctions that have squeezed the impoverished country. Trump, who has led a "maximum pressure" campaign against North Korea, has insisted that Kim first provide verifiable proof that he will irreversibly dismantle North Korea's nuclear arsenal. But Kim has shown surprising diplomatic skills in his meetings with overseas leaders this year and a smiling and affable side as he went clearly out of his way to be cordial to Moon. Trump is far less predictable, but badly needs the kudos that a successful summit will bring ahead of congressional elections in November. The two leaders meet a 0100 GMT on Tuesday at the Capella on Sentosa island, a refurbished British Army artillery mess that is now one of Singapore's most expensive luxury hotels.

One-third of California Casualty employees have 15 years or longer with the company. Learn more about the California Casualty Code and other reasons why fulfilled employees give exceptional customer service at http://www.calcas.com/our-company.

SAN MATEO, Calif. (PRWEB) June 10, 2018

Many corporations struggle with keeping workers invigorated and excited about their jobs. That’s why the average person only stays with an employer for about four years. At California Casualty, however, one-third of the staff has been with the company 15 years or more. In fact, as of April, nearly 100 of California Casualty’s staff members were celebrating 20 years or longer, some with tenure reaching more than 40 years.

California Casualty, a 104-year old, fourth generation family-owned auto and home insurance company, knows that celebrating and appreciating its workforce makes a difference. Loving their jobs and being more enthused means more passion for providing exceptional service to policyholders. That dedication is paying off with over 750 five-star Trustpilot® reviews and a 99 percent customer service satisfaction rating.

California Casualty’s advantage comes from the California Casualty Code, written in 1965, which lays out the company’s values, and guides how each person in the organization should treat customers and each other. The mutual respect derived from the Code encourages and leads to both individual and corporate success, with everyone working for a greater purpose – to protect American heroes, our customers.

An example is Danielle Hogan, recently recognized with the company’s highest honor, the Carl G. Brown, Jr. Award of Excellence. She cited the family-friendly environment and the Code for her 17-year career and success. “Everyone here is super fun, works very hard, and shares their expertise. The work we do is both challenging and exciting, and the direction from the Code makes it possible for people from different areas with different ideas to reach a consensus that benefits the company as a whole,” she said.

Chief Marketing Officer and Vice President of Sales, Mike McCormick, who just celebrated his 20th year, agrees that the Code helps the company stay true to its virtues and its employees. “This document reminds each and every one of us the importance of the company’s values, traditions and ethics. The code is, in a way, a risk management tool that prevents us from losing sight of the principals behind our success,” he said.

California Casualty provides auto and home insurance to American heroes – educators, law enforcement, firefighters/EMTs and nurses – who make their communities better. CEO Beau Brown, who knows every employee by name, summed it up with this statement, “Every interaction with fellow employees, company executives, policyholders and prospects is an opportunity to build relationships and lasting impressions. Every employee is essential to the success of our organization.”

About California Casualty:
Headquartered in San Mateo, California, with Service Centers in Arizona, Colorado and Kansas, California Casualty provides auto and home insurance to nurses, educators, firefighters and law enforcement across the country. A 30 per cent jump in the number of Hongkongers applying to emigrate to Canada has left experts warning of a potential brain drain among a younger generation struggling to cope with the city’s high cost of living. Official figures show 1,561 people applied for permanent residency last year, and with an estimated 300,000 Hongkongers in the city already holding a Canadian passport, overseas experts have suggested this could point to a loss of faith in Hong Kong’s future among a... WS Communities - TOC Program: Benefit For Both Communities And Developers In Los Angeles

$
0

****LOS ANGELES, CA / ACCESSWIRE / June 10, 2018 / ****WS Communities, the managing partner had moved from New York to Los Angeles 3 years ago. He had already been able to purchase a car. The reason to purchase the car was that in Los Angeles there was car-centric and that made him buy before getting a house so that to be able to go around the vast area. If he was to move like today, the first thing he would look for was where to live and the next thing is where he will be working.

His reversal has shown how Los Angeles has changed in growing attitude. This is because investors and the developers are busy to cater residents for a new generation. If an expert is asked he will say that it is a transit-oriented development. Developers are creating residentials near metro stations and bus stops. The managing partner at WS Communities, is not left behind and he is among the developers working on 11 multifamily projects. The number of affordable housing will be 450 throughout Los Angeles and have already applied for a program according to Planning Department in Los Angeles.

TOC is the program that provides incentives to the developers so that they can be able to create affordable housing for mixed-income. The program will also help in building sustainable so that the residents of Los Angeles can wake in affordable and more safer homes, be able to catch a train nearby so that they can reach where they are going on time. The mayor had said in a news release after the program had been announced last fall.

The program came and will be able to hire local workers so that they can help in the construction of the projects. They will be provided with high pay and in an exchange, there will be 20% of the units that are in the new project which will provide affordable housing. There will also be development incentives. It will be an advantage for the developers who have projects that are within half-mile in a radius of the rail station to take incentives like being able to increase the density. The floor-to-area ration will be an advantage to provide certain housing levels that can be affordable to people earning a low income, very low or that have extremely low tenants. TOC program will be tiered, meaning that the closer that a new project will be transiting stop, there will be a higher level of the incentives. The program is very beneficial.

WS Communities will be actively seeking to acquire property which will be able to fit into both tier 3 and 4 categories. These are projects that are close to the transit stops. The program will be able to reduce risks and uncertainties so that it can encourage more housing. In the county of Los Angeles, bus ridership and metro rail declined by 15% which is 397.5 million trips that are over in the last five years. Ridership that is on the bus system has also fallen by 21% from 2013 and it was a reason why they stopped riding train or bus. So when real estate is developed that will be within walking distance to get public transport, the communities will develop vibrantly, livable and sustainable. It is a win-win for community and developers

The two biggest makers of computer processors are competing again — and it could mean faster and cheaper computers

The two biggest makers of computer processors are competing again — and it could mean faster and cheaper computers **

· *Intel finally has some competition in the computer processor market.*
· *AMD's new chips are finally viable and less expensive alternatives to Intel's chips. *
· *As with anything, consumers benefit greatly with more competition.*

--------------------

Ever since AMD released its line of Ryzen processors (CPUs) in 2017, Intel and AMD have seemingly been in a "core war."

They're apparently trying to outdo each other when it comes to core count, and ultimately performance. This is something we saw happen at the Computex event in Taipei, where Intel announced a 28-core CPU, which was followed by AMD's announcement of a new 32-core CPU the next day.

And before Computex, we saw Intel respond to AMD's new Ryzen CPUs with its 8th-generation of CPUs that came with more cores than ever before in the Core "i" lineup. Intel's 8th-generation CPUs was the biggest performance leap we've seen from the company in years.

To be accurate, the number of cores doesn't directly translate to a CPU's performance. It certainly helps, but it mostly has to do with manufacturing processes and CPU die sizes, which I won't go into here.

Regardless, it if sounds like good old-fashioned competition, that's because it is.

The reason why it's worth noting this competition is because it's only recent. Since 2005, Intel has absolutely dominated the CPU market with a 82.5% market share at its peak in Q3 of 2016, according to Passmark, a benchmarking software company. Just look at your laptops and desktops, including Macs. They all likely run on Intel CPUs.

There's a good and simple reason for Intel's dominance. They offered better CPUs for pretty much anything you can do on a computer, at least to anyone who was willing to pay for the Intel premium over the budget-friendly AMD options.

But perhaps Intel got a little too cozy with its dominance, and its innovation and progress was widely said to be stagnating. Year over year, Intel was releasing CPUs with less and less impressive performance and technology leaps.

Whatever the reason, whether complacency or a real limitation in technological advancement, Intel was only releasing slightly better versions of its previous CPUs year over year. It gave the feeling that, as long as its processors were leagues better than AMD's, Intel didn't have much reason to innovate.

But AMD's Ryzen CPUs — as well as the company's enthusiast and professional Threadripper CPUs — closed the performance gap in a major way. As is typical with AMD CPUs, they offered more cores compared to Intel's, but they could also compete with Intel CPUs in performance, which isn't something AMD could effectively do since 2005.

And the market is noticing, whether it's enthusiasts who build their own systems, or computer manufacturers. When Ryzen was introduced, AMD's market share saw a slight bump. However slight, it was the biggest bump that Passmark saw since 2005.

Speaking with Wired, IDC lead semiconductor researcher Shane Rau said "We're back to this familiar sense of competition. These companies are producing better and faster, more cost-competitive products that I think bode well for the PC."

Indeed, this re-kindled competition between the two major CPU makers could finally lead to some faster and cheaper computers, and ultimately new innovations that can't occur without competition.

The Hundred: Why sponsors will like new cricket proposal

The Hundred: Why sponsors will like new cricket proposal“Embarrassing and shambolic – a total mess.” No, not the England team’s performance against Pakistan in the First Test at Lord’s last month, but former skipper Michael Vaughan’s verdict on the England and Wales Cricket Board’s proposal for a new eight-team city-based tournament, dubbed “The Hundred”.

It is fair to say that the announcement of a new 100-ball competition – designed to appeal to a younger audience and attract new fans to the game – has not been an unqualified success.

Critics aplenty have been queuing up to lambast the move as a marketing gimmick, insufficiently distinct from Twenty20 at just 20 balls fewer per innings, and a format too far for a sport already struggling to cope with T20, 50-over and Test cricket.

*Read more*: ECB proposes 100-balls-per-innings city-based competition

Not the ideal starting point for drumming up sponsor interest. But cricket has been on a sticky wicket for some time now. The ECB struggled to find a sponsor for its Test activity, after Investec pulled out of their 10-year, £40m sponsorship deal three years early. Two pre-existing ECB sponsors – NatWest and Specsavers – have filled the void. That doesn’t exactly suggest brands are queuing up at the Grace Gates to be associated with the game.

England’s abject performances on the pitch haven’t helped matters. Nor has the steady stream of negative headlines over the last year – be it Ben Stokes being charged with affray, Australia admitting ball-tampering or the recent allegations – strongly denied – of English spot-fixing.

Against that backdrop, and the ECB’s chairman opining that “the younger generation, whether you like it or not, are just not attracted to cricket”, one might assume that The Hundred will struggle to garner sponsor interest. But you would be wrong.

The tournament is a fresh, new opportunity, unencumbered by any previous sponsor baggage, which always plays well with prospective brands. In its previous incarnation as another 20-over competition it would have been up against an existing tournament, the NatWest T20 Blast. Now it has differentiation, innovation, and a USP.

That proposition includes both male and female competitions, and will benefit from the ever-increasing brand interest in women’s sport. It will be interesting to see whether the ECB unbundle the male and female strands for separate sponsors, although that could create marketing and logistical complexity, especially given the proposed double-headers.

Brands will climb aboard if there is certainty about fan interest, and reaching the valuable family and youth audience. This is where the ECB has some trump cards. They recently signed a monster broadcast deal with the BBC and Sky – reportedly worth £1.1bn over five years – that includes this new tournament.English cricket chiefs have taken cues from Australia's popular Big Bash (Source: Getty)

Creating a format that starts at either 2.30pm or 6.30pm and lasts only three hours was not just so that families attending could get home for their kids’ tea or bedtime. Fitting broadcaster slots was arguably a far more significant consideration. The BBC will show 10 of the 36 games live on terrestrial TV, giving cricket – and its sponsors – much needed reach into homes nationwide.

The marketing muscle of Sky and the BBC is in the bag, but the ECB have their own marketing chops. The Women’s World Cup in 2017 was a case study in engaging a new audience with the right marketing, and creating an accessible, family-friendly matchday experience. And ECB execs have made many a trip to the Big Bash in Australia, where there’s a ready-made blueprint on how to engage a family audience in a new competition.

The build-up to the new tournament couldn’t be much better, with a Cricket World Cup on home soil in 2019, marketing to the very same Big Eventer family audience that The Hundred will be trying to capture. Throw in a home Ashes series in 2019 as well, and it is a pretty good time for those ECB execs to be out selling their wares.

Ultimately, a lot comes down to the price tag. The ECB’s revenue expectations should be mitigated by the coffers swelling from the £1.1bn broadcast deal. Attracting brands who will help to market the tournament and engage the right audience – straight from that Big Bash playbook – should be prioritised over a fat cheque.

So, will there be a ton of brands clamouring to be associated with the new short format tournament? Assuming the ECB play the long game, one hundred per cent. Reported by City A.M. 24 minutes ago.

BOSTON, June 11, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Christie Briscoe Zarkovich, an experienced institutional investor with deep ESG, impact and mission-related investing expertise, has been named Head of Mission-Related Investing (MRI) Research at Cambridge Associates, the global investment firm. She is based in the firm’s Arlington, Virginia office and reports to Noel O’Neill, Global Head of Investment Research.Zarkovich joined Cambridge Associates in 2016 as a Managing Director, and has been focused on constructing investment portfolios with an impact and mission-related dimension for endowments, foundations and private clients.

The Head of MRI Research is a newly created role and reflects the increasing importance of impact investing among institutional investors. In the last five years client assets placed in ESG investments – those that integrate environmental, social and governance factors – have doubled to approximately $9.5 billion from $4 billion in 2012.

"ESG and impact investing are key components of many of our clients’ investment programs today, and the number of ESG investing opportunities has increased dramatically,” said O’Neill. “We are delighted that Christie is leading the next generation of our MRI research as the opportunity landscape continues to expand. Cambridge Associates formally established its MRI practice in 2008 to stay ahead of the increasing demand from clients to invest in strategies that align with their overall missions and ESG priorities. The firm has 35 ESG- and MRI-focused investment professionals around the world serving firm’s core client segments, which include endowments, foundations, private clients and pensions. On average, Cambridge Associates conducts approximately 300 due diligence meetings a year with ESG- and MRI-related investment managers, with a proprietary database that includes over 1,000 MRI strategies that have been vetted for client portfolios over the last decade. Areas within MRI research include climate change and impact themes such as education, community development, health and wellness, social justice, and more.

Before joining Cambridge Associates, Zarkovich served as a Managing Director at Perella Weinberg Partners in Denver, where she was a member of the Investment Committee and helped manage $6 billion in foundation and endowment assets on a discretionary basis. Fun activities encourage kids in Science, Tech, Engineering, Art, Math (STEAM) when school’s out. Matrix Integration, the IT partner for more than 1,000 businesses and schools in Indiana, offers tips to help parents and kids slow the slide, and add a little STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) into their summer.

INDIANAPOLIS (PRWEB) June 11, 2018

When school’s out, “summer slide” quickly kicks in – the annual learning loss that is experienced by nearly every student who has a summer vacation. [1] This summer, Matrix Integration, the IT partner for more than 1,000 businesses and schools in Indiana and beyond, has tips to help parents and kids slow the slide, and add a little STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) into their summer.

“The key to a child’s learning success is “exposure” to build interests and enhance familiarity and development in STEAM,” said Nathan Stallings, president of Matrix Integration. “I always make sure my children are enrolled in STEM/STEAM programs throughout summer.”

Matrix Integration’s Top Tips for Engaging Indianapolis’ Kids in STEM this Summer:

1. Take STEM Kids to Work – Entrepreneurs and business leaders working in STEM fields can open up their business to kids with a passion for STEM subjects. Businesses can create “Bring Your Kids To STEM Work Day” or offer a free STEM class for kids to experience real world problem/solution formulas in science, technology, engineering, and math.

2. STEM Camps – Many Indianapolis park districts and colleges offer STEM summer camps, with activities like coding, video game design, robotics, and more. Marian University, IUPUI, and Butler University offer STEM summer camps. YMCA Camp Carson in Southern Indiana provides STEAM programs, and robotics camps through districts like Noblesville Schools are options as well.

3. Visit Indianapolis Gems – Research the exhibits at your local science museums and centers to find what might appeal most to your children. Many museums including The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis offer free or low-cost STEM programs. Indianapolis Zoo, and Conner Prairie in Fishers offer exciting summer programs in STEAM. Memberships include even more opportunities for STEAM exposure for kids.

4. Don’t Forget the Library – Libraries have become a major resource for free and low-cost STEM education. In Indiana, many libraries offer families access to maker labs with advanced equipment like 3D printers. The Indianapolis Public Library “Tech Lab 2018” for children to explore art and coding with apps on iPads.

5. Online Resources – Kids who are interested in learning how to code have a wide range of free sites to help them learn. Scratch is a beginning programming language from MIT that helps kids at any skill level create games, animations and stories, and share their creations in an online community. Older kids can check out the MIT App Inventor, a tool they can use to create Android apps.

A History of Supporting STEM
In addition to finding local STEM activity in the community, Matrix Integration leaders also know the importance of encouraging curiosity and problem solving. Brenda Stallings, co-owner and chief executive offer of Matrix Integration, has been behind her company’s support of programs like “Blended Coders,” a STEM class for girls in Indiana.

“Children can grasp technical concepts faster than we realize,” Stallings said. “They’ll start to think more like scientists when you don’t answer their questions right away. Let them try to figure it out. That way they start to take ownership of their learning.”

In addition to supporting formal STEM programs, Matrix Integration employees have been volunteering in the STEM education field for decades.

“As a tech company, we need the next generation of STEM-minded individuals,” said Stallings. “With STEM we are teaching skills the way they will be used in the real world. Imagine how empowering it is for a child to realize the robot she builds in STEM class is just the beginning.”

Epic Health, Florida's Leader in Virtual Care Technologies, Previews Their New Third-Generation Virtual Care Solution

“Carie” brings a sweeping brand refresh that hints at the growing physician-led movement the company has become synonymous with.

Miami, Florida, June 11, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Today, Telehealth innovator Epic Health has revealed the development of their new revolutionary platform, Carie. The powerful new mobile technology is their third-generation telehealth platform, a standout amongst industry competitors. She was built to fully elevate and improve the core doctor-patient relationship by allowing the physician to both consult remotely with their own patients, engage new patients remotely,  in-office, and, most significantly, while being compensated for all; it’s like no telehealth technology solution before.

By bringing together some of the greatest leaders in Telehealth, and working closely with their ever-growing Physician and Specialist network, Carie was created to prioritize convenience, access, and quality, a digital healthcare experience unlike any other. Though other companies have been successful in creating telehealth technology platforms over the past 10-12 years, the patient experience and financial outcome for the Physician has been abysmal, with a
Until now, the benefits of this 360 healthcare solution were only available to people who had the luxury of affording it. “By reducing the barriers of time, cost, and inconvenience, Carie is improving patient access by instantly connecting patients with their own trusted Physicians in partnership with the revolutionary two-sided marketplace at HealthShare™,” stated CEO and Founder, Matt Wanderer.

“Our high-tech and high-touch approach means that our team is focused on building smart technology that takes into account all the important doctor-patient touchpoints in a seamless and simple digital experience that truly improves health outcomes,” says Wanderer. The solution was built to solve many of the growing healthcare problems in America, including the national average wait time of 29 days to see a primary care Physician.

“Carie is designed to streamline and revolutionize healthcare, not replace independent Physician jobs. It’s time that the independent Physician be allowed to provide telehealth to their own patients, not stand-by and continue to witness the gradual attrition of their practices to the payers, health systems and retail pharmacies,” said President Jack Karabees. The U.S. healthcare system continues to undergo a major transformation. Mobile technologies are changing the industry, federal deregulation has opened the door for true innovation, and increasing patient expectations are challenging Physicians and providers of all types.

Carie is intended to roll-out to 10,000 Physicians and their patients in October, 2018. For more information and updates, please visit www.carie.com

About Carie:
Born out of the Cambridge Innovation Center at University of Miami’s Life Science and Technology Park, Carie is a disruptive mobile health platform that offers a provider-centric telehealth technology for healthcare providers wanting to offer personalized telemedicine solutions to their patients. Carie offers a HIPAA compliant, cloud-based technology solution which enhances any Physician’s, specialist’s or provider’s practice while boosting patient satisfaction and convenience. The Carie platform immediately eliminates the bulk of uncompensated after-hours calls, prescription refill requests, provision of lab results, etc., while providing on-demand after-hours primary care consultations when requested.

Give 'Em Hell: Trippie Redd Interviewed

Give 'Em Hell: Trippie Redd Interviewed"I come from nothing, so when I see all this shit I just think bigger about it..."

“It was one of those highs where I just raised my eyes up like this. I had my forehead scrunched up and I was smiling. I was looking at it like, ‘Damn. The plaque. I got it!’”

*Trippie Redd* is perched upright in the back of a parked car, his girlfriend slumped alongside him, as he inhales a cloud of smoke. The Canton, Ohio, native is currently recalling the proudest moment of his short, but quickly snowballing, career. After years of watching with his favourite artists achieve RIAA Certification milestones, he received his first for ‘Love Scars’, the angsty break-up song that opens his breakthrough mixtape ‘A Love Letter To You’. “I know I’m gonna have another one sitting right next to it, platinum, too,” he adds, exhaling. “It’s like a stepping stone, the gold.”

It’s Trippie’s first time in London and he’s here to play a pair of shows; the first sold out in just 11 minutes, and the second was added to fulfill the further demand. He’s already been spotted by fans during a shopping spree in Selfridges and is appreciative of - and still slightly overwhelmed by - the love he’s receiving so far away from home. Nowadays he says he’d struggle to do something as regular as go outside and ride a bike in Los Angeles, where he currently resides, but he’s getting used to the fame and describes it as “a dream come true”.

Much of this appreciation is drawn from humble beginnings. “I come from nothing, so when I see all this shit I just think bigger about it. Canton is a small town. [There’s] a lot of violence, a lot of shit going on,” he reflects. “Nobody ever leaves, it’s like a death trap. But I left.” He’s reminded of another local export. “Marilyn Manson definitely left!” he declares. “I always thought he was fire. I still listen to his projects, I fuck with a lot of different shit.”

If you’ve heard any of Trippie Redd’s music, or watched any of his videos, then this won’t come as a surprise. His work is impossible to box into any single genre, containing elements of lo-fi trap rap, R&B, pop and sample-based hip-hop, and his influences span everything from MF DOOM to the Deftones. Trippie embraces being different, in everything he does - which probably explains why he’s so easy to spot while he wanders around a London department store. “I do everything distinct to myself,” he says. “You know me from far away, up close - two miles down the street, you gonna know it’s me.”

A lot of his visual cues can be traced to his love of anime. It’s particularly apparent in music videos like ‘Hellboy’, in which he battles a giant demon, or ‘Dark Knight Dummo’, in which he and Travis Scott fend off a zombie horde. “I fuck with One Piece, and Fairy Tail. Deadman’s Wonderland is my favourite one for sure,” he says, enthusiastically reeling off his recommendations, the latter of which inspired a song title on his latest mixtape, ‘A Love Letter To You 2’. “My homie Sauce Walka got me hooked on Terra Formars. It’s basically fucking cockroaches got mutated to big ass alien soldiers, and they try to kill all the humans and shit. It’s funny. It really opened my mind watching certain shit.”

- - -

- - -

It sounds cliché when he declares that he’s “creating his own sound,” but you’d struggle to find someone who sounds like him: “I just rapped like me. I sang. I screamed too, like a singy-scream.” During solo recording sessions early in his career, he’d experiment with his vocals free from the judgement of others: freestyling to bars, auto tuning his voice and occasionally pushing his voice to its limits in a melodic rage. “I would overpower my voice,” he recalls. “Really lay something down that I wouldn’t say around others, but it would come clean.” He admits that he’s been thinking of going back to recording solo again in order to tap into that level of creativity - free from judgement - once more. “You know, this shit is art,” he appeals. “I gotta work on my craft by myself sometimes.”

In a generation of artists that boast about how quickly they can make a hit, Trippie is focused on longevity, and takes pride in the blood, sweat and tears that go into each song. “A timeless concept is a concept anyone can relate to,” he says. “You gotta keep working hard to get to your best. I’m gonna be the best star I can be, in whatever genre, or wherever they put me.”
