Kuebix’s 2018 Supply Chain Mid-Year Review and Predictions: What’s Happened and What’s Still to Come

ELD Mandate, Tariffs, Diesel Prices, Higher Rates, Capacity Crunch, Customer Experience

MAYNARD, Mass., June 06, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Kuebix, creator of a transportation management system (TMS) that delivers true freight intelligence, predicted that 2018 would be a year of enormous change in the supply chain. With the half-way point of 2018 in sight, that prediction has proven to be true, with more and more companies turning to technology to increase efficiencies as constraints in the industry tighten. The transportation industry is undergoing a revolution related to the issues around the ELD mandate, rising diesel prices, the capacity crunch, increased customer expectations, tariffs and more. Utilization of TMSs is at an all-time high, with Kuebix alone reporting adoption of its technology by over 11,000 companies. In 2018, technology is transforming logistics operations by providing shippers with the ability to improve customer service, sustain profits and capture much-needed capacity.“So far, the transportation industry has weathered the challenges of 2018 well, but shippers who don’t begin embracing technology will continue to face increasing pressure in the coming months because of the changing supply chain environment,” said Dan Clark, Kuebix Founder and President. “New regulations, a lack of drivers and the needs of digital-age consumers will cut into shippers’ bottom lines if not addressed. In order to combat these challenges, shippers must leverage technology to streamline their logistics operations.”

The ELD Mandate went live in April of this year and is serving to enforce the new hours of service (HoS) rules by automatically documenting true hours driven. Any form of unexpected delay can put a driver over their HoS. This forces the driver to stop for the night in order to stay within the daily 14-hour work day, of which only 11 hours can be used for driving, or else face strict penalties. Many truck drivers have left the business because of this mandate, but the new rule requiring tracking software appears to be here to stay. By embracing the mandate, shippers can turn the constraint into an opportunity to leverage technology to track their delays and put fixes in place to combat them. TMS can also reduce the number of trucks on the road and improve unloading and loading times by consolidating and optimizing loads. With the help of dock scheduling and yard management software, driver throughput can also be sped up, reducing delays and helping to keep drivers within their HoS.

Other issues that will continue to affect the transportation industry in 2018:

· Tariffs - The 25 percent tariff imposed on imported steel from the EU, Mexico and Canada, and the 10 percent tariff on aluminum continue to be a trend. Many are predicting that the import duties will drive product prices up for the consumer. The day before the tariffs kicked-in, the stock market fell 250 points as people questioned the stability of the economy, foreseeing retaliation from countries affected by the tariffs.

· Diesel prices - Diesel prices have already jumped 7 cents in the most recent weeks. To keep costs contained, businesses need to reduce mileage to help lower fuel usage.

· Higher rates - Shippers are concerned with increasing transport rates from carriers. One method to keep rates level is to help make carriers more efficient with technology for shipment consolidation and yard management that maximizes carrier capacity and minimizes time wasted in the yard.· Capacity Crunch - The continuing capacity crunch is getting worse, with some carriers saying they have 20+ loads to move per truck. By using a collaborative network of carriers, suppliers and fleet owners, shippers can have visibility to the best truck to move their product from original to destination.· Customer Experience – E-commerce now makes up a total of 17% of all retail sales in the US. Those consumers are demanding customer experiences to rival that of brick-and-mortar stores. To keep customers from purchasing from the competition, shippers must provide tracking statuses, shipping flexibility and improved delivery speed. Emphasis on the final mile is increasingly important for customer retention.

“Next-generation technologies like Machine Learning (ML) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) are growing in popularity within the industry by integrating with predictive analytics to fuel better decision making,” added Dan Clark. “Supply chains will only become smarter and more valuable as these technologies are integrated into applications. By adopting new technologies early, shippers can position themselves to compete in our increasingly digital industry.”

The YFZ450R’s bodywork is designed for ideal ergonomics and rider comfort with a T-shaped seat and maximum knee room permitting riders to easily move around the machine and attack corners to the finish line. An assist-and-slipper clutch reduces clutch lever effort for less fatigue, while simultaneously increasing clutch plate pressure for positive engagement. This clutch system also reduces engine-braking effect, which allows for faster cornering, particularly when downshifting.

The YFZ450R is available in a Team Yamaha Blue with color matched seat, A-arms and frame (MSRP $8,999). YFZ450R SE with a GYTR front grab bar receives two new SE color options, Red or Armor Gray (MSRP $9,399).

'Hereditary' is a terrifying new movie that critics are calling this generation's 'The Exorcist' Film critics are lauding "Hereditary," a new horror film from A24 starring Toni Collette and Gabriel Byrne.

Collette and Byrne star as Annie and Steve Graham, the parents of a family that becomes haunted by sinister, supernatural forces and the dark secrets of their ancestry following the death of the family's matriarch, Annie's mother.

Written and directed by Ari Aster, the film is even receiving Oscar buzz for Collette's performance, along with praise for Aster's inflicting of "psychic damage" through innovations on horror genre tropes.

"Hereditary" currently has a 93% "fresh" rating on the reviews aggregator Rotten Tomatoes.

The film opens nationwide on Friday.

*Here are several reviews of "Hereditary," which one critic is calling "a new generation's 'The Exorcist'": *

-"In its sense of poisoned family bloodlines, of the everyday invaded by unspeakable evil, of bonechilling terror you won't be able to shake, 'Hereditary' is a new horror landmark. Toni Collette should have Oscar calling."-

Peter Travers, Rolling Stone-"In the end, horror and supernatural fans will certainly get their thrills, but it's the psychic damage on the screen that will make the film hard to forget.-

David Lewis, San Francisco Chronicle-"Hereditary is so refreshing in part because it invents its own scare vocabulary."-

Becoming Informed Consumers on World Anti-Counterfeiting Day and Beyond

On World Anti-Counterfeiting Day, June 6, 2018, the International Trademark Association (INTA) encourages all consumers to learn more about their consumer rights in an effort to make smart purchasing decisions in a global marketplace where the sale of counterfeit goods is on the rise.

NEW YORK (PRWEB) June 06, 2018

On World Anti-Counterfeiting Day, June 6, 2018, the International Trademark Association (INTA) encourages all consumers to learn more about their consumer rights in an effort to make smart purchasing decisions in a global marketplace where the sale of counterfeit goods is on the rise. The necessary first step is understanding the impact of counterfeiting.

Counterfeiting is defined as the manufacture, distribution, import, export, or sale of goods with a false trademark that is identical to, or substantially indistinguishable from, a registered trademark, and which is likely to confuse or deceive consumers. Fake goods pose a direct threat to the health and safety of consumers everywhere and directly hurt local economies in the form of job loss.

The impact of counterfeiting is growing exponentially. It is estimated that by 2022, the global total value of both counterfeit and pirated goods, including digital piracy, could reach US $2.8 trillion, according to a 2017 impact study, The Economic Impacts of Counterfeiting and Piracy, released by Frontier Economics and commissioned by INTA and the International Chamber of Commerce’s Business Action to Stop Counterfeiting and Piracy. This compares to US $923 billion to US $1.13 trillion in 2013. Online sales of counterfeit goods are contributing to this trend.

In order to minimize the risk of purchasing counterfeit goods, INTA urges consumers to go straight to the source by shopping directly at authorized retail distributors both online and in stores. When shopping online, consumers should look for verifiable contact details for retailers, such as a mailing address and telephone number, and the availability of real-time customer service.

“Counterfeiters are becoming so adept at producing and selling counterfeit goods that it is frequently difficult for shoppers to distinguish real versus fake,” said INTA President Tish Berard. “Consumers need to know that if the price of the item they are considering buying seems too good to be true, it probably is.”

INTA is committed to increasing awareness among consumers of all ages in all parts of the world about the dangers to health and safety posed by counterfeit goods. Among the Association’s myriad efforts to alert the public about counterfeits, INTA is reaching the next generation of consumers through its Unreal Campaign which educates students ages 14‒18 about the importance of trademarks and the dangers of counterfeit goods. To date, INTA has reached more than 11,000 students in 33 countries since the campaign began in 2012.

In addition, INTA’s Unreal Campaign was selected as an exhibitor for the 2018 National Trademark Exposition, to be held on July 27-28 at the National Museum of American History in Washington, D.C., in collaboration with the Smithsonian Institution. Sponsored by the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), the Expo will feature exhibits designed for families with school-age children, legal professionals, business owners, and government officials with an interest in learning more about trademarks.

Since the fall, INTA has been hosting an exhibit, “The Power of Trademarks,” at the National Inventors Hall of Fame® at the USPTO, Madison Building in Alexandria, Virginia. From interesting facts to interactive games that encourage visitors to put their shopping skills to the test to identify real versus fake products, the exhibit shines light on why trademarks are important to companies, consumers, and communities worldwide and offers visitors an opportunity learn how to make quick, safe, and smart purchasing decisions. The display runs through April 2019; the Hall of Fame is free and open to the public.

“On World Anti-Counterfeiting Day and year round, it is important for consumers to recognize the value of purchasing real goods as an essential way to protect public safety,” said INTA CEO Etienne Sanz de Acedo. “From cosmetics to car parts to vitamins, almost every product you can think of can be counterfeited, creating large-scale implications for society at large.”

In another effort to protect consumers, INTA is encouraging trademark owners and Internet-related companies worldwide to review the Association’s voluntary best practices on how to address the proliferation of online sales of counterfeit products. The recommendations are contained in INTA’s recently released guide Addressing the Sale of Counterfeits on the Internet.

Tesla remains a ‘Fresh Pick’ at R.W Baird following high voltage annual meeting

Analysts at R.W. Baird said Tesla Inc. (NASDAQ:TSLA) remained a “fresh pick” Wednesday after Tesla CEO Elon Musk rebuffed a shareholder attempt to overhaul the electric car maker's board and strip him of his role as chairman.   R.W. Baird analyst Ben Kallo reiterated his Buy rating and US$411 price target. The stock was up 3.5% to US$301.40 in pre-market trade Wednesday after all three directors seeking to remain on Tesla's nine-member board were re-elected during the company's annual meeting held Tuesday in Mountain View, California. Directors Antonio Gracias, James Murdoch and Elon's brother, Kimbal Musk, won by "a wide margin," according to Tesla. ABC News reported that CtW Investment Group, an activist firm that represents labor union pension funds, had “spearheaded a rebellion seeking to oust the trio from the board on the grounds that they didn't know about the auto industry” at a critical time when Tesla was struggling to meet its production goals for its first mass-market Model 3 sedan. Baird analyst Ben Kallo was reassured after shareholders approved the board of directors by a “significant margin.” “The analyst said the body language was positive, noted that shareholders approved the board of directors by a significant margin and expects management to achieve positive GAAP net income and positive cash flow in Q3 and Q4,” reported Investorshub.com. Citi’s lingering concerns about the Model 3 sedan Meanwhile, Citi analyst Itay Michaeli lowered his price target for Tesla to $313 from $347 after refreshing his Model 3 peer analysis. The analyst maintained a Neutral rating on the shares. “Model 3 demand and autopilot developments are the key "make/break" fundamental call for the second half of 2018,” Michaeli wrote in a note to clients seen by the thefly.com. “The analyst said that while he appreciates the bull case of ramping Model 3 deliveries and Tesla achieving profitability in the second half of the year, thereby easing cash concerns and cementing the carmaker's electric vehicle lead, he can't get there on risk/reward at this point." According to media reports, missed production targets for the Model 3 contributed heavily to Tesla burning through more than US$1bn in three of the last four quarters. Investors have been worrying Tesla will have to sell more stock or add to its already hefty debt load to raise enough money to survive. READ: Tesla has refunded nearly one-quarter of Model 3 deposits, says a credit and debit card analytics report Musk, however, told shareholders that Tesla will be "cash flow positive" during the second half of this year by delivering 5,000 Model 3s with a starting price tag of $35,000 per week.    Musk said Tuesday his company was “quite likely” to build 5,000 of the sedans a week by the end of this month. He reaffirmed his forecasts for second-half profit and cash generation based on that target, and said he still sees no need to raise more capital. Meanwhile, Bloomberg reported that one of the reasons for Musk’s assurance that Tesla is “turning the corner on manufacturing” is the addition of a third general assembly line that completes the process of putting together the Model 3.  Reported by Proactive Investors 6 minutes ago.

National education nonprofit honors leaders in educational equity andinclusivity

New York, NY, June 07, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- On Tuesday, June 5th, the “I Have A Dream” Foundation celebrated its annual Spirit of the Dream Gala at Guastavino’s in New York City. With the venue at maximum capacity, nearly 500 supporters, students, and alumni gathered to honor leaders who have made a transformative impact in building a more inclusive America and a more equitable education system. Honorees included: University of Pennsylvania President Dr. Amy Gutmann with the Eugene M. Lang Lifetime Achievement Award; Journalist and host of NPR’s Latino USA Maria Hinojosa with the David N. Dinkins Social Justice Award, presented by the Honorable David N. Dinkins; Boxed Founder & CEO Chieh Huang with the Corporate Partnership Award; and Dreamer Alumnus Lowell K. Davis, PhD with the “Spirit of the Dream” Award.

In addition to proceeds from ticket sales, nearly $140,000 were raised during the evening’s event to support programming like the “Dream Accounts” College Savings Accounts program, mentorship, college readiness programming, and Dream UP, the organization’s summer college immersion program. Board member Jeff Gural also announced a matching donation for proceeds raised during the event, which will be used by the “I Have A Dream” Foundation’s New York affiliate to open a new program in the Chelsea Elliot houses.

Honoree Chieh Huang, CEO & Founder of Boxed, said, "Tonight's gala is all about opportunity. It's about the thousands of young people we're empowering through access to education, to reach their full potential." Huang, a first generation college graduate, was recognized for his own commitment to education access, which he has demonstrated through his promise to personally pay the college tuition of all of his employees’ children.

Eugena Oh, “I Have A Dream” Foundation’s President & CEO, shared, “we are thrilled to be shining a spotlight on these exemplary leaders who are throwing open the doors to educational access and opportunity for all. We are exceptionally proud that three of our honorees are first-generation, low-income students themselves. We hope that our Dreamers around the country can look to these leaders as inspiration for everything that they can achieve.”

“Nadie te lo puede quitar,” shared honoree Maria Hinojosa, founder and President of the Futuro Media Group. “No one can take away the education that we have. No one can take away the lessons that we are learning. No one can take away our capacity to look at our society critically and yet with heart. And we need that now more than ever. So thank you so much for this award, and thank you so much for all of your hard work.”

“It is a special honor for me to be presented with the Eugene M. Lang Lifetime Achievement Award,” said Dr. Amy Gutmann. “We are incredibly proud that more than two-thirds of undergraduates at Penn graduate debt-free. But there is so much more that needs to be done, and that we can do together. None of our children should be limited in what they can achieve because they cannot afford an excellent education, or because of other external circumstances that we collectively have the power to change. I applaud the excellent work of the ‘I Have a Dream’ Foundation for giving thousands of students the opportunity to fully pursue their talent and passion.”

During her tenure as President of the University of Pennsylvania, Dr. Gutmann has been a strong advocate for access and inclusivity in higher education. Penn is the largest university, and one of just 14 schools in the entire country, to provide all-grant financial aid to its students. In the Penn Class of 2022 that was just admitted, one in seven undergraduates is a first-generation student; more than a quarter of the class is low-income, first-generation or both; and more than half identify as minority.

*About the “I Have A Dream” Foundation:*

The “I Have A Dream” Foundation (IHDF) is a leading education nonprofit focused on breaking the cycle of intergenerational poverty through a comprehensive program of support that follows the same group of young people (“Dreamers”) from elementary school all the way through college. Founded 37 years ago through the vision of Eugene Lang, IHDF currently has 16 affiliates in 13 cities and has served over 18,000 Dreamers.

The numbers: 51% of students in U.S. public schools—over 25 Million children—are low-income, and only 9% of low-income students earn a bachelor’s degree, compared to 77% of their high-income peers. 90% of Dreamers complete high school, compared to 70% of their low-income peers, representing an additional $2.9 Billion in earnings over their lifetimes. Dreamers are over 3 times more likely to earn a bachelor’s degree than their low-income peers. Without this level of support, the cycle of poverty continues: 65% of children whose parents have no more than a high school diploma live in poverty. Now, 37 years after Eugene M. Lang’s life changing promise, Dreamers have children who are attending college themselves.

Futurism Technologies, a leading Next Generation Information Technology Services and Solutions company, today announced the launch of the NEXTPlatform.io™ at the Internet Retailers Conference and Exhibition June 5-8 at McCormick Place West, Chicago, IL. The NEXTPlatform.io™ provides a Simple, Transparent and Guaranteed marketplace for companies to buy and sell pre-configured software solutions and services.

Buying software is challenging. After selecting a base software package, customers typically work with an integrator to have it customized. The process and pricing can be lengthy and opaque. It’s time to decentralize the IT services industry! The NEXTPlatform.io™ is a marketplace featuring pre-configured software packages and services with pricing right up-front. Buyers will be able to change configurations and options, and then track the build and configuration process. Once delivered, buyers will have a trial period to cancel their purchase. They also have enhanced search options that allow them to search by software, vertical or service and to compare software and ratings. On the other side, any vendor can market their pre-packaged or pre-configured software and services on the NEXTPlatform.io™.

“It’s time that we adopt new ways to cut the waste out of our industry. Imagine a retailer being able to buy an e-commerce store integrated with a CRM and with a ChatBot and churn predictor built in without having to do a custom build,” said Scott Yoneyama, VP of North American Sales. “The NEXTPlatform.io™ will reduce the amount of custom integration work being repeated on the customer side and increase the revenue multiplier for new projects on the vendor side. Too many customers are paying for the same work. If a vendor builds this for one customer, why not enable them to productize it and sell it to the masses? Everybody wins!”

Company’s Automated Monitoring Expanded to S3, SQS, RDS, Dynamo, and Kinesis

BERLIN (PRWEB) June 07, 2018

Instana, the leader in APM solutions for monitoring dynamic containerized microservice applications, today announced the extension of performance monitoring support to a broad range of Amazon Web Services (AWS) products including AWS Lambda, Amazon’s premier Serverless Computing platform. In addition to the release of the new monitoring sensors for AWS native platforms, Instana also announced that their AI-powered APM solution is now available through the AWS Marketplace.

“More business applications are operating in a hybrid environment, incorporating traditional monolithic applications, wrappered with a new microservice stack, and using native AWS services. It’s now also common to see customers starting to use AWS Lambda Functions for specific microservices as well,” said Mirko Novakovic, Instana CEO. “This level of complexity requires the ability to monitor the whole environment with a single solution that can give DevOps the required observability to see and address problems, no matter where they reside.”

Instana’s new Amazon capabilities include continuous automatic discovery of specific AWS components, including Lambda, the collection of configuration, performance and health information for each platform and application performance across the entire environment, including AWS Lambda. Additional Instana AWS monitoring sensors now being monitored include:· S3 – Amazon’s Simple Cloud Storage Service, a web scale storage solution for web applications
· SQS – the AWS messaging middleware platform
· RDS – the AWS native relational database
· Dynamo - the AWS NoSQL database
· Kinesis – a streaming optimization platform for AWS-based applications.

“With so many different native components on our AWS platform, from SQS for message brokering to AWS Lambda for functions-as-a-service, we are excited to see Instana’s ongoing development in monitoring AWS resources”, said Barry Laffoy, Lead DevOps Engineer at ClearScore. “Instana’s automated approach and full stack support allows all of our stakeholders to access the exact data needed to understand how our cloud infrastructure and applications are operating.”

Instana’s AI Powered APM solution automates the management of critical business applications, even those running in cloud, containers, microservices or serverless environments. This automation empowers the optimization of application and service delivery within IT organizations by increasing the speed and efficiency of service and application delivery.

The company’s solution leverages automation and AI to automatically monitor, visualize and understand application performance for dynamic containerized microservice applications. Continuous discovery and mapping provides real-time infrastructure and application service visualization, even under constant change.

By adding AWS Lambda support, Instana extends its microservice and container-based application monitoring to include code running in the Amazon Function as a Service (FaaS) platform. The additional platforms supported as part of Instana’s next-generation monitoring solution extend the power of multi-cloud application monitoring to include both traditional components such as SQS messaging and RDS database instances, as well as non-traditional components like Kinesis (video streaming) and AWS Lambda (FaaS). This flexibility gives application developers the autonomy to pick the exact platforms desired, knowing that DevOps has the ability to effectively monitor anything selected.

Demos of Instana’s new Amazon features available at the AWS Summit in Berlin at the company’s booth (B-04). Or check out Instana’s Amazon demos on YouTube.

The IMMUNOME™ Discovery Array and CTA Array developed based on the KREX™ technology are now available for direct purchase by scientists who wish to perform their own research.

SINGAPORE (PRWEB) June 07, 2018

Sengenics, the functional proteomics company, today announced the retail product launch of two new protein microarrays, the IMMUNOME™ v4 Discovery Array and the CTA Array which are now available for purchase for the very first time by any researcher. Both these arrays use the patented Sengenics KREX™ functional proteomics technology that ensures that only correctly folded, functional proteins are immobilised to the microarray surface.

Johan Poole-Johnson, Chief Commercial Officer of Sengenics said, “We are seeing a significant market demand for our KREX™-based arrays in disease areas that are not in Sengenics’ core discovery pipeline. We have therefore decided to give access to these two new arrays to the wider research community without necessarily entering into a formal collaboration.”

The IMMUNOME™ v4 Discovery Array contains only full-length, correctly folded and functional human proteins, spotted in quadruplicate. The array has a wide breadth of applications for discovery of diagnostic, prognostic and protective autoantibodies. The same array can also serve as a platform to discover protein-protein, protein-DNA or protein-RNA interactions.

The CTA Array is also a KREX™-based protein array for high-throughput quantification of autoantibodies to Cancer-Testis (CT) Antigens. CT antigens are a group of unrelated proteins that show highly restricted expression profiles in adult somatic tissues but which are aberrantly expressed in various cancers. The key application of the array is for unique differential profiling of cancer-antigens in various cancer types. The CTA Array can also be used to monitor patient responses in checkpoint inhibitor studies, determine epitope recognition in patients or monitor patients in experimental cancer vaccine studies.

Both the IMMUNOME™ v4 Discovery Array and CTA Array are available for direct purchase from the Sengenics website, scienceexchange.com, selectscience.com and Sengenics distributors around the world.
